This is what happened to a friends winch, from what I understand it is the first time he has used it. He was winching out another friends WJ out of the snow.

It just exploded damaging the grill and the A/C condensor. It is a EPI 9.0 9000 lbs

I saw something like that a long, long time ago (cant remember if it was a SuperWinch). Basically, if the winch isnt mounted right and on a nice and flat surface, the two halves are misaligned from the start and therefore increases the likelihood of carnage as the roller is reeling in the line.
