I blew the 10amp brake light fuse the other day and found an interesting glitch in my 91xlt. With the fuse blown if you set the cruise control it does not turn off when you push the brake. The car slows down as you brake but when you let off the brake it tries to speed back up to where the cruise was originally set. As soon as I replaced the fuse the problem went away, just for fun I pulled the fuse again and got the same results. Has anyone else encountered this problem, I realize it's minor but somewhat troubling that a 10amp brake light fuse can control my cruise control!

Hey ND Explorer,

Not related to your post but, I'm a transplant from ND living in Minneapples. I'm also a hockey nut. Sure was fun watching the Sioux win it all this year!!! Go Sioux!!!

You're not one of those Goofer fans now are you? The Sioux will be decent this year too. I recruit for UND and it looks like they brought in a nice group this year.

HELL NO, I'm not a Goofer fan!!!! I do catch myself rooting for them when they are on TV, but that's only because I'm a hockey nut and it's the only time I get to see WCHA hockey. To bad the Sioux arn't on TV down here, I only get to see them play about six times a year. Do you think Blais is going to make a move to the pros?

ah yes....a 4x4er by day and a goalie by night....what a life. I only wish they would show more collage hockey here in Vegas. I really love watching the "Bean Cup" whenever it's on espn. Why don't they have more 4x4ing shows or hockey shows????

The reason that the cruise control does not de-activate with the brake light fuse open is that the cruise control is looking for the brake lights to come on and that signals the control to shut off. No good fuse, no brake lights, no stop signal for the cruise control.

OK that makes a lotta of sense. After I bought my 91 I was driving to work on the freeway using the cruise control and when I braked I slowed down but when I let off it sped back up. This was a little nerve racking since I was on an off-ramp. I was taking the truck in to the dealership that day because the brake lights weren't working. Then about a mile from work I turned on the blinker to make a turn and the radio went dead, truck almost stalled, and smoke rose from the fuse box. Needless to say I stopped at the service station on the corner and called the dealership since it was still under warranty. They authorized the shop to fix it. Turns out there was a short in the steering column. I got it back and it ran fine but I didn't use the cruise for about 2 months until I took a trip to Denver and the first time I tried it there was nothing, no cruise light nothing. Does anyone know what might have happened to my cruise control?

Aw man, not one of you UNDies! :D Naw, I'm just kidding...we (Auburn) have somewhat of a rivalry with you guys in aviation, so I gotta rag on y'all...I do root for you in hockey, tho.

Auburn has an aviation program? Hmmmm. I thought the only program in the south was Embry-Riddle. Hey at least your a hockey fan, you guys can't be all bad!

Yeah, we've had an aviation program in one form or another here since the 1940's...we're in the midst of restructuring the whole program (it almost got scrapped last year by Engineering, but Business picked us up, long story).

As for hockey, well, I lived about 2 mi from the only ice rink in metro Atlanta (except for the Omni or Philips Arena), so I've had a lot of exposure...
