whenever i am driving i hear this almost like a squeking/hissing noise. It only does this when the pedal is in a certain position(between idle and just under half). after the pedal gets through that point it stops. I am thinking it is something in the intake. i checked from the intake to the tb and all is fine, could it be the intake manifold gasket is bad?

I have a similar sound in my 04 4.6
Usually only in the mornings when I leave the house
Its kinda like a hiss/whistle at a certain rpm or speed.
If I go faster or slower or more or less rpm's it stops.

I think its the trans as others have mentioned here.
The fluid is cold and until it warms up it makes that sound going through the filter etc.

it cant be the tranny, the noise is coming from the front of the car, also the noise doesnt go away when the engine warms up

Check and clean your IAC many times that is the culprit of such noises as a test pop off the black plastic cap and see it if stops.

where is the IAC cap?

Depends on your engine, on the SOHC it is under the plastic cover in the middle of the intake. On the OHV it is usually located next to the TB, on the 5.0 I'm not really sure, but I think it is next to the TB. They all pretty much look the same. Some have the plastic cap some don't they have all been known to make noise at times. They usually make noise as it gets warmer outside.
