I am planning to put 1.5 or 2" (cant remember which they are) coils in the front and 8.5" Warrior shackles in the rear. This will give me around 2" of lift. I'm putting 265/75 Firstone Wilderness ATX's on it (these are not the same Wilderness' that come on newer EB's). They measure 31.4 tall and 10.5 wide ( an inch taller than 31's and the same width). Anyways, I was thinking that 4.10 gears would be a little low and 3.73 a touch tall, so 3.96s would be ideal except that you can't get em for the Explorer. So what's the general consensus here, 3.73's okay, or should i got with 4.10's.

cisko,
You may have a problem with rubbing.Look in to a bodylift, they are cheap. If you are going to spend the money on gears. I would go with 4.10's.If you already have 3.73's it should not be to bad.I'm running 33x12.50 with 3.73's.I see you live in florida also.We don't have big hills to climb.Hope this will help.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of going with a 3" body lift instead but I have heard that this could cause excessive drivetrain vibration. So i was thinking of combining a 1" body lift with the 2" suspension lift, which should give me enough room. I have had 31's on my Explorer before and they cleared fine without rubbing (guess im one of the blessed few that have one of the higher riding stockers-also, the wheels they were on were stock backspacing). Yea, I think the 4.10s are the best route-these anemic 3.27s gotta go! I would go with 33's and a 4" lift but i dont want to spend all that money considering that there arent any hills or much of anything else to wheel on around down here.

Depending on how/where you drive the 4.10's should be perfect. With the 4.10's and 31" tires (30.5 high) 85mph in OD is about 3000 rpms. With the 32" tires (31.5 tall) 85mph is now 2800 rpms. The 4.10's and the 31's or 32's seem to be a better conbination than the 3.27's with the stock 235's.

The 32's wont' fit easily with a 2" lift. We have a 2.5" lift with the 8.5" shackles. The lift is actually 3" of lift. The 31's fit fine... but the 32's would hit the front bumper. The bumper wraps around the front to the sides and acts sort of part of the fender.

Here is a picture of the bumper we made to get around the problem..
