I just ordered a set of Cooper AT3's in 265/70/17 for my 06 Explorer (4x4, V8). I'm debating buying a 5th and a matching factory wheel so I can do a 5 way tire rotation have a correct size spare for off-roading. Does anyone know if it will fit in the spare tire well? It's only 1.2" bigger than the factory size.

It's a tight fit but yes it will.

Thanks

good to know. i still have my stock one under there but i also keep some patch plug stuff with the rubber cement in my truck so normally if i do get a flat i can patch it. But yea i prob should get the same size spare someday lol

Well to confirm, it does fit, but barely. it also doesn't seem to tuck all the way up, but it's pretty close. The 265 is a inch+ wider, so obviously it is going to hang a little lower. If I was going to be off-roading, I'd probably take it out and put it on the roof. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy another rim and tire, and do the 5 way rotation.

you'll also have to be careful of long items in the trailer hitch, such as a bike rack.

Good to know. I'll have to test my bike rack. I'd really love to have a swing away tire carrier like my old bronco.
