I have an '04 sport trac that didn't come with a receiver hitch and i would like to add one. If i go the used route will a hitch off something else bolt right on with no mods? If so, what, and what year? thanks

Measure your distance between frame rails and see if any other vehicles are the same. Also just some info I pulled a hitch receiver off an 89 Jeep wagoneer (XJ) and it had an adjustable width hitch so it could possibly fit to the ST.

I'd guess that a hitch off a 2nd gen ex might bolt up but I'm not entirely sure.

i got my curt hitch for like 137 shipped from amazon. Its the hideaway one. Great piece and worth the money

We recently bought one of those adjustable width receivers brand new in the box at a local store just based on the price, $10. But it doesn't list it will fit any explorer. It does say it fits a wagoneer and a cherokee, plus some full size trucks.
I mainly ask what'll fit because my neighbor buys cars for a living and told me i can take any hitch off of whatever he buys for nothing and he doesn't come across to many sport tracs. I had him looking for one for about 4 years and only came up with 1.

The hard part will be lining up the mounting holes.

i used a second gen explorer hitch but due to the plastic bumper on the trac i had to do some plastic cutting and some grinding to get the bumper ball mount shaved down enough for the draw bar to slide in. this issue i had would be remedied with a 3" body lift.
