someone told me that if i either got real big wheels (22"s) or real big tires (31"s) that me speedometer might not read right because of the size difference, is that correct??

It's not about the wheels, it's about the tire size. But sometimes, if you have bigger rims(esp. when they're that big), you gotta get taller tires. It's all about the diameter of the tire because that changes the amount of times it rotates, which is why it'll throw off the speedo.

bmx is on the right track. The overal diameter is what you need to worry about (tire+wheel). On this section, is a sticky informing people of how to reprogram your speedo for the 98+ models (here).

The computer gets it's speed by the Vehicle Speed Sensors and it calculates that VSS signal and converts it into revolutions per mile. On the link above is a way how to get your rev. per mile. When you go into the computer, it'll show you what the current rev per mile is - if it's close or the same...don't worry about changing it
