1999 Explorer
Hey guys,

Just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions. On Monday I will be buying a 1999 Explorer with 138,000 on the clock. It has the SOHC, AWD/4WD.
I will be using this to pull my boat and take hunting as I have a Monte Carlo for a DD.

I am getting a pretty sweet deal on it because the guy is getting his dads 08 silverado. $1100 to be exact.

A few things are wrong with the Explorer, but that is a given. A few of the plastic pieces are cracked or missing. Check engine light is on. The front door does not unlock with the keypad and have to use the back door to open it. After searching I think I have found how I will fix it.

The guy I am buying it from has had it for 3 years and didn't plan on selling it so soon. He just put new tires and front brakes on. Besides that, the only maintenance he has done is have the oil changed.

I am hoping that the previous owner before him had the Timing chains replaced, is there anyway I can find out? Or what is the typical mileage it starts? When I go and pick it up I will listen for the rattle on start-up.

Also, what is the towing capacity for these? It just has a ball on the bumper, no hitch. I read it can tow over 5k (is that with a hitch?), but I am a little leery that it won't be able to pull my boat and trailer out of the water, weighing just over 2,000lbs.

welcome and be sure to post pics of it
