MODS?
I am installing a new radiator, A/c compressor and accumulator tomorow. I am woundering what will happen if I dont finish the istall in time to have the a/c leak tested and filled with r-134(or whatever it is they use) and I continue to drive it for a few days untill I can get in the shop again. Will something happen to the compressor? Will the clutch get messed up? I appreciate the advice.

the second thing is: I need a new halfshaft for my front right axle. anyone have ideas for a good to buy this and is this something I can do my self?
Thanks everyone. :exporange

They don't just put freon in, they also put in some lubricant when they charge the system to lubricate the compressor. You do not want to run the compressor without freon/lubricant in the system.

So, when you put in the compressor, do not connect the wire to the compressor. That way you will not even mistakenly engage the compressor clutch. As long as your clutch gap is properly adjusted, the compressor will not be engaged. You can spin the clutch pulley freely by hand to verify the clutch is not engaged.

AS far as the halfshaft, search this site. There are several threads on that I am sure. You can then decide whether to tackle that urself. I don't think it is that tough a job - just annoying!

the compressor won't run whithout refrigerant

If you want the compressor to last, you need to evacuate the system before you fill it with freon. Thay means to pull a high vacuum and let it sit for a bit to clear out any air and moisture. This will also help check for leaks, if it holds the vacuum. As stated you run the engine with the compressor in place but not charged. The A/C clutch will not engage the compressor if there is no charge.

Don't forget to also replace the dryer. If vacuum is lost in the system for a day or more, the dryer can easily be ruined. If you don't evacuate the system immediately after opening the system, buy another dryer. Good luck,

indeed, even if you connect the compressor, the pressure switch will prevent it from cycling.
