The shop that just replaced my starter said that the oil from the KKM filter I have will get sucked into the MAS sensor, & damanage it. Is this true? The guy at the shop is a friend, & used to be a tech a a ford dealer. He said there was a warning from Ford put out to address this.

it is fine....ford probably fired this guy for being not all there. if the oli is on the filter it is absorbed. now if you inject oil into the sensor then youll have problems

It could cause problems.......but you would have to use a TON of it on the filter for any to stray loose. I've used the K&N and now the KKN since I got mine.....Yet to have a problem. I'd say don't worry about it, but don't spray the oil on the sensor either

That is just the type of brainwashing Ford does to their employees. Technically, yes if you over-oil your filter then the excess oil can get sucked into the MAS. I don't know if it permanantly damages it or if cleaning would fix it though. I would say that since the elements inside the MAS are heated, it could conceivably cook the oil onto the wires which you probably wouldn't be able to clean off. If the filter is oiled properly per the instructions then it will not damage the MAS. I have had my K&N FIPK on my Explorer for a year now, had a K&N drop-in in my '94 4.0L Ranger and had a K&N drop-in in my '95 V8 T-bird and have never had a MAS related problem.

I figured it was only if you over oiled it.

YES. I RE-OILED MY K&N AND HAD PROBLEMS SOON AFTER. HAD TO REPLACE THE MAS UNIT. FORD SERVICE TECH SAYS THEY LIKE K&N FILTERS, BUT YOU CAN BARELY OIL THEM (THEY SEEM TO BE OK AS THEY COME 'BRAND NEW'). PROBLEM IS THE 'MAS' SENSOR IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE AIR BOX.
I TRIED CLEANING THE SENSOR WIRES RECENTLY, AND THAT SEEMS TO HELP (SEE OTHER 'POSTINGS' REGARDING THIS).

The trick to re-oiling your K&N is to only apply a small amount on the bends on oneside and let sit overnight, then oil where the guss (?)
it still white on the reverse side and let stand again, then touch up the small areas and your fine. I have 2 filters so when I clean one up, the other gets installed. That way I can let it soak and spread the oil for a long time. I have never had a problem with oil getting on my MAF sensor.
