Hey everyone,

I just finished my install today w/ 2 10" subs powered by a 700w amp and a set of components powered by a 300w amp. This is in my '99 Sport

Without the gear you could see the bottom right corner of the battery on the indicator, and now w/ the gear it covers the lower right of the battery on the indicator. This is with the system at full go and the A/C on. Will this cause any long term damage to the vehicle? Will the alt. go out faster? Will it start to rev higher to compensate for over worked alt.

Thanks for any help!

if my math is correct, and assuming those amps actually use that much power, thats an 85 amp power draw..... you might wnat to look at upgrading the alternator if you run a lot at night and/or with the a/c on.....

I ran it tonight w/ the lights and the A/C on and did not have a dimming of the lights. However it seemed that the idle was a little rough. Could these be linked, or am I just paranoid?

Does it do it while you are cruzing down the road or is that just at idle?

Just at idle does the engine act a little rough, while cruising it seems to be shifting at a higher rpm then before.

Of course w/ all the deadening I put in it could just all sound different and I'm being paranoid. I never pay close attention until after I make a change and then I'm always, "Was it doing that before?"

thanks

You will need to upgrade your alternator and get one of these : XSTATIC BATCAP 400

The BatCap will definitely help your system out.

Does the batcap replace the stock battery? If so, does it fit in the stock location w/ no modifications?

I know the feeling!

No, it doesn't replace the battery. A capacitor is an add-on that stores electrical energy so that the direct drain on the battery is less. Hook up seems simple enough - just wire it in line between the battery & amp(s) and there you go. I see "1 Farad Capacitors" quite often for relatively simple systems. Not real expensive but something to look into.

I had a 93 probe before my explorer. I had 2 12" 500 watt subs, 2 1000 watt (max) amps, stock rear speakers, and infinity kappa perfect 6.5's in the front. First, with a system expect to replace alternators more often. I replaced one in my probe in the 2 years I owned it, and in my previous car (almost same sound system) replace one in again 2 years of owning it. To help the draw pick up a 1/2 or 1 fared capaciter and wire it in, that will help with the bass shocks. I had 2, 1/2 fareds with my previous systems. But aside from that, honestly its not a bad idea to get a higher powered alternator. But take advantage of caps, afterall, thats why they make em. *shrug*
