Just curious if this tire size will work on a stock 97 Explorer

255/65-15

That is a 28.1" tire. About what stock is. Are you sure its not a 16" wheel? Either way, you can safely clear up to a 30" tire with no lift or no trimming.

I was just curios if it would fit. Wanted to make sure on the stock rims that it wasn't too wide or cause any problems.

I found that tire size on the E2 site. Just wondering if anyone has tried that size yet.

I don't think that will fit on a stock 15x7" rim, it's too wide.

Yes it will. I have 265/70 - 15 on 15 x 7 wheel on mine. No rubbing and great at absorbing city pot holes :) .

Dude! 265/70-15 would fit! Yours is a size smaller. You know what... looking at the tire clearance that I have, I think you could even fit a 275/70-15 under there.

Remember, it's not just a clearance issue, it's if the tire's sidewall can flex enough to accomodate the narrow 7" stock rim.

Various tire manufacturers including BFG have rim size recommendations on their websites.
