Recently I have been having problems with my Driver side window. Especially when its cold. It doesnt want to open, very slow and sometimes stops completely. At other times it goes quickly but it has a hiccup about halfway down and sometimes sticks at that point. Sometimes it sticks open at that hiccup spot too on the way up. How do I remove the trim to look inside?

Its kinda hard to describe on how to remove the trim, but there will be some screws to unscrew and you will prybably have to just pop it off. By that I mean feel around the edges of the plastic door trim and you will feel where some areas are loose and other areas are tight.

The tight areas should have a plastic retainer, that when you pull on the trim, they should pop off.

I would reccomend getting some new retainers as they will sometimes break when removing.

There are (2) screws in the armrest area that'll need to be removed. Pop the trim off around the edges of the door as MYEXP explained - there is a "trim removal tool" for this if you want to get one. You'll need to work around the door handle "pull" and ultimately lift the door up and out/off of the window channel. Also, as MYEXP mentioned, you're better off buying new retaining clips to reattach the door...however, watch out for the brittle clips that Autozone sells. I broke more upon replacement than i damages upon removal.

I searched for my problem, and this is as close to it as i could get....anyway, My passenger side window has almost the same exact problem...except i don't think it's sticking, i think it is just power loss. It'll go down really slow to begin with (sometimes also stopping) and then it'll pick up halfway and go down at a fair pace. When i put the window up...it goes up no problems. It's a 91 Explorer sport. Is there anyway that i can reground my wires for more power? is that even how i fix the problem?? and how would i do that. Thanks Everyone

also... my window likes to stick and then "click click click" like it is going up or down but it stops so i have to guide it with my hand? do i replace the motors?

I have worked on a few Electrice windows in cars and most of the problems end up being two things. Wore out parts and or old lub. Wore out parts normaly work fine one way but not the other, hence if it goes down real slow, it will go up normal, or vis versa. Old lub will normally make the window work poor either way. Most windows have a scissor type action with plastic rollers that slide up and down tracks, if the rollers get wore they bind, replaceing them can help. The old lub is easy, clean it all up and relube. Of course those are the easy fixes to a couple common problems and involve taking the door apart. All problems are not the same, and my Explorer is doing the same thing. I will be taking it apart as soon as the weather permits some outside work and I will post back what i find.

I had that same problem for the longest time on my '91. It hasn't happened in awhile so I don't wanna mess with it.
