Does anybody know if tint on back big side windows on 92 is factory?(sort of looks like mirror tint). I was told by tinting co. that it was, and the only way to change it is to install new windows, NOT an option! It looks and feels like aftermarket to me. Anybody else with 92 EB or that knows about it, i would appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

Open up the window and look at the inside of it. If the outer edge has a film that only goes to about an inch from the edge. If so, then it is aftermarket. If there is no film and the entire window is that color then it is factory. I have seen a lot of windows like that on Explorers so I think it is factory.

mine is factory. it's kinda like a mirror tint. i'm pretty sure you have the same thing. you dont have to replace the window to tint. a good shop can match the color of the factory tint and make it darker if you want.

It's factory Privacy Glass. The tint is in the window itself, not a film. This is what I have found to work: 35% Neutral Smoke tint all the way around. Gets rid of the bronze look on the back windows and was the closest match I could find for the fronts.

94 Sport Window Tint

I thought the factory tint was in the glass also, until i used a razor to remove a label. The razor scraped what appears to be the tint and shows from the outside.

Did you say you have the same tint on your back side windows?(the ones that dont open) I went to another tint shop today and they told me SAME THING, to change look i would have to replace windows! Im just fustrated, because im trying to match tint on all windows. And ill be dammed if im buying new windows. But the way it is now it looks kind of goofy(one window diff than another) thanks.

I don't think the tint shops like to put tint over the factory tint. But if you pester them enough they will do it.

They tinted of my factory tint no problem. The back and rear doors are limo 5% and thre front doors are 35% dark smoke and it looks good. You can't even tell the back had a broze tint to it. The rear does have a little mirror look though from the outside and the front doesn't but it's hard to tell.

Is limo 5% different from non-limo 5%?

I'm not sure on that. I didn't knw there was two different ones. Sorry I can't help.

I don't know if there are two different ones. I don't really know anything about tinting, but I thought just since you said limo 5% that it would be different than just plain old 5%. But I don't really see how it would be different, because the point is that they let 5% through. Oh well.

A factory tint and a tint that you have a shop done are totally different. A factory tint is a tint that is in the glass. An aftermarket tint uses a laminant to cover the glass. Putting it on over a factory tint is just like tinting a window that has no tint at all. So shops should have no problem doing it.

I thought that was mentioned in a thread a while ago. Was I wrong about that? Sorry, my bad

Yeah, all my windows except for the front two had the Privacy Glass on them. 35% Neutral Smoke film all the way around was the ticket! Anything darker and it's hard to see out. I once hit my buddy when I had the fronts at 20% because I didn't see him  (he was fine...I was driving slow :D).

BTW, 5% tint is commonly referred to as "Limo Tint." There are not two different kinds.

Cool, thanks.

On a totally unrelated note: earlier today I was driving to Wendys, and I passed this little ricer that had been pulled over and the cop was using a light sensor to test if the tint was too dark. Does this happen a lot? I've never seen that before. But I must say, seeing that today made me think twice about going darker than the legal limit.

Here in AL they have a thing that is two pieces and they one piece on each side of the window and it will tell them if it is too datk. And they still use a color strip they put on the inside of the window and use there flaslight to see how dark it is. They seem to so it here only if they stop you for something else and you make them mad. I haven't seen or heard of them doing much here.

I didn't know there was a way to even test window tint. I thought it was just like stereo volume, as one of those unpunishable crimes. Oh well. Learn something new every day

plenty of cops give out tickets for "noise pollution"
if you get enough of them (usually about 5), they can confiscate your system.

The way the law's written in Georgia is that if the stereo is over 80 decibels, they can ticket you. But then you take the ticket to court, and since the Georgia copcars aren't equipped with decibel meters they can't prove that you were over 80 decibels.

Yea...there is now a law in Houston that says that your stereo can't be over a certain limit..and i hear that they are ticketing people for it too.....i hope that law doesn't come to Austin...cuz that would suck.
