That looks pretty cool, do you have to do that up there to get the engine warm enough.

yes,, on -20 days it will keep the engine warm, and improve fuel mileage,, by letting the engine keep it's temp, ,
also lets the heater stay warm,,

but being up that far forward, the rad can still get air and keep from overheating,,,

My hats off to you Corkey! Very nice work. What about some paint? Black it out? I like the notch for the hood release, you thought this out. Looks way better than cardboard! You know its like 75 degrees in Florida. Ever think of getting a winter home?

i have a winter home,, same as my summer home,, good fishing all year,,

and the off road area is only limited by the limits of your truck,,

I had a 1962 Volvo about 30 years ago that had a spring loaded cover, like a window shade, that was operated by a pull chain under the dash.
Just pull on the chain and the blind would raise in front of the radiator and the car would heat up fast. Then you had to lower it some if it started to overheat.

Nice mod! As I am sure you already know if you play with the truck in deep snow you might plug that hole in the bumper and pack snow underneath which would cause you to overheat. I just say that cause I was working up around LaBarge WY last winter and it was -35 degrees F so I used some cardboard to block airflow. I then went and played in some deep snow and packed snow all around the radiator and ended up almost overheating. But like i said before I am sure you already know this.

i put it on with tie wraps so if i have to take it off i can,,and they are easily replaced,,

Looks good. I cant believe it gets so cold there! Is it possible to get a differant thermostate I dont know? good job....Now you need another boat I guess eh!

lol yes that is cold, but not as cold as it gets,, imagine -20 to -40 for about 6 weeks,,
i just also replaced the thermostat,, got the 195 degree,,
as for the boat, it was an accident victim , hit a dock in the dark,, oh by the way not my boat,,,,

Thats freaking hard core corkey.

if you want to see -40 on a thermometer i will take a picture of it for you , , any day now,,,

That's the only way I would want to see -40

Isn't that the thermostats job?

Not in the extreme cold. I imagine with an actual tempature of -25 the wind chill has to be around -40 or more.

with the windchill as he said being alot lower the thermostat will only let small amounts of hot stuff thru,, but not enuff to support the heater, this just cuts the amount of wind getting to the rad,
air can still come around the bottom, and keep the engine cool enuff,,
with the coolant at 195 and the air at -40 or more, the temp difference is about 230 degrees,, will cool an engine down real fast ,
