Friend of mine has a '97 ranger with wipers that don't work at regular intervals. They sometimes have an extended time between wipes and other times they double swipe. On and explorer I would normally tell him to check his multi-function switch but am not sure if rangers share a similar wiper system or if they have a timing relay/circuit. Anyone experience this or can verify if the systems are the same?

Probably has a bad wiper arm.. You can either go to a junkyard or go to the dealer and get one. When my 95 was new it had intermitant issues where it would just turn on without even touching them. I had to replace the arm again and I got the new one at the junkyard.

To take off the wiper arm its easy. There are 2 or 3 screws that hold the column cover on. Once that comes off there are 2 screws that hold the turn signal arm in place, take those off and then undo the wiring harness.. Should only take you 10 minutes to replace the whole assembly..

I got a six pack on it being a multifunction switch.
