Wipers wacked out

The last couple of mornings when i tried my wipers, nothing but "HI" would work. Then later in the day it would be back to normal. NOW everything is off one notch, so LOW is HI, etc, etc. So basically i cannot turn them off comepletely, it just stays on slow intermentant. I dont know what the hell happened, but its getting pretty annoying! Has anybody had this problem before? Is there a fairly easy fix?

Any help appreciated.

Without testing anything I'd guess it's a wiper motor but your description of being "off one notch" sounds like something went wrong in the multi-function switch.

Edit: you don't have a multi-function switch. Just a wiper switch IIRC.
Is that clear as mud?

92's have the mutli-function switch, on the turn signal stalk. I would guess it is the switch...

Thanks, you wouldnt know how to get to it would you? I guess i'll just replace it and see what happens.

Do you know if there is a way to repair the switch yourself? The dealer told me that the arm assembly costs $108.00! GEEEEZ!!!

I'm pretty sure you can just pop the cap off and get at the connectors....

I have the same problem with my wipers...but mine go crazy...they can wipe 3 or 4 times then stop, then wipe once, then stop, then wipe mabey 2 times...its really random what they do.

I posted about it before and someone told me there was a recall on that mult-switch thing....I called about but there were no recalls for my particual explorer...

I dunno what to do...I don't want to pay over $100 either!

There are a couple known problems with the wipers, and a few solutions people try. One is having the dealer reflash or replace the GEM module. (expensive) Another solution is to take apart the wiper stalk and clean the copper contacts. In my case, cleaning the wiper stalks worked and now both my wiper problems have been solved for over 6 months.

Wired, the recall was for the GEM, not the multifunction. The usual symptom was the wipers coming on randomly by themselves, or when using the turn signal.
