Dale:
See my reply to you on the SUV website.

Dale:
Sorry about that but my reply to you didn't get registered on the other site, (they are not as slick as this one!) so..

What you describe sounds like the Idle Air Control solenoid valve is sticking when the engine is dead cold. This probably is due to the gunk that gets passed to the intake manifold from the PCV valve, an eventual normal occurance unfortunately.

The IAC is located just downstream of (behind) the throttle body on the driver's side of the intake manifold. Remove it and give it a good cleaning with an appropriate carburetor cleaner. While you are at it, clean the connector terminals (both sides) with a good electric contact cleaner (from Radio Shack, for one).

Let us know how things go.

i have replaced the i.s . control put it didnt fix the problem
just a small note on my idle problem when i disconnect the air sensor near the air cleaner its idle is good but when i connect it on again the idle goes bad and the motor run rough until warm ?

Dave,

You have a variation of a common problem with an easy fix that many have discussed on this board before.

Check out the Explorer Tips section on this board and read the info on Servicing the MAS / Tips For A Missing Engine. Give the suggested fix a try and see if that works.

Hope that's it! Dead Link Removed

Had a similar problem on a Ranger...
Cleaning the MAF fixed it!

Everything I have read in regards to cleaning the MAF/S has been in terms of removal, clean, reinstall..I have a 95 and the air 'tunnel' seems different from the 91-94 and when I remove the filter I can see the MAF only about 4 inches from the opening. Considering a decent carb cleaner says to spray from about 4-6 in. and drys quickly, is there any harm in cleaning the MAF in place without removal ??? I'm too cheap to spring for the #20 Torx security driver, I guess ...

idle problem fixed
thank you all for your advice
i clean the m.a.f sensor with crc electronic cleaning spray , maybe ford australia sould take advice from this site .
