I would like to be able to operate my disc changer while having a new head unit so I can have CarPlay and things like that from a new head unit. It looks like the current changer and the touchscreen are one unit, but I can find head units with a CD slot up top. Would that be compatible with the existing disk changer? I know you can change between radio stations and the CD player with the steering wheel, and i Can retain that function with the correct setup, but I’m not sure it would work. Attached is what my interior looks like, if that helps. Thanks.

Different vehicles obviously but recently I had a 2001 Lincoln Town Car and did the same thing. Aftermarket head unit but had a factory trunk mounted 6 disc changer. Pretty sure the installer used a plug and play harness to avoid cutting wires. CD changer did not operate with the new head unit.

Head units are trending toward not accommodating any disc playing since it is a dying media. Most are geared toward streaming, USB drives and/or SD cards. Many accommodate no media at all and rely only on a smartphone connection.

I prefer it that way, I've copied my cd collection to my phone to listen to in the car.
