Would one 12" do the job if it's a good 12?

I've got a single Infinity 10.1d in my truck. It hits harder, and sounds better than all the stuff my buddies have. It's just in a small(15x13x11) sealed box and sits at the back of the rear seats. It's punchy and very deep.

Oh and Infinity gives it a 3 year warranty. :)

Your much better off getting one QUALITY 12 than three cheap 10's or two cheap 12's.

The whole SUV-System perception is the the more space you take up the better the 'system' is.

I know people that have two 12's, or three 10's, but it is just BAD quality, loud and rattly and annoying.

why is everyone suggesting a ported or bandpass box??? in an suv??? there is soooo much space go with a sealed box you'll get much tighter bass and more than just 1 tone of bass... a properly aimed sealed box in an SUV will sound much nicer than a ported, because you don't need to 'create' air space, you already have it in your SUV!

also, tgertz77 I have 3 12" JL W6's accompanied by great door speakers great amps and a great deck, and trust me it's much better sound quality then 1 12" :D

A properly designed ported box will sound just as nice as a sealed box. A pre-fab will most likely never.

Bandpass must really be designed properly. They are held to tighter constraints than ported enclosures. Never, ever, use a pre-fab bandpass box. You may get lucky, but odds are -- it'll sound like poo.

I think you were asking if a 12" Type-R would do well for you, I say yes it would. I also say that you should spend a bit more cash and go with a SoundSplinter Rl-p 12. I have two of the 15s and have started recommending them heavily. Simply the best subwoofer I have used. www.soundsplinter.com They require litte airspace and are extremely clean and linear. 2 cubic foot tuned to 30hz would be plenty of bass for you, with as little as 300RMS applied. It'll just keep getting louder on up to around 1200 RMS.

Well I want to comment my my recent addition to my truck. I am using a kicker 405 5 channel amp and running a dual 4 ohm kicker 12'' L5 in a 1.8 cu ft ported box I got off ebay. This thing slams!!!! It hits the punchy bass great and still gets LOW. Sub was like 150$ and box was around 45$ with shipping.

Explorer's have one of the best transfer functions of any vehicle. Explorers and CRXs just have amazing cabin gain. If you are fairly new to audio, almost anything in one of these trucks will be loud enough for you -- especially the Type-R 12.

Boomin brings up a good point, ebay, the L5 and L7 refurbs are usually good as new reconed by Kicker, and hella cheap.
