WRONG mileage being recorded

I have a 2003 sport trac and it is recording the wrong mileage,it is 17 miles round trip from my house to town and back but it say's it is 25 miles,I also have a 2001 explorer and it records the right miles to town and back.
ANY HELP?

Have you changed your tire and/or wheel size from stock?

I believe you can change tire size by making a programming change to the PCM. Perhaps you can do this yourself with something like ForScan.

No tire size change would cause that distance variance. I would normally expect less mileage recorded from a failing sensor or faulty wiring. It’s both the odometer and trip meter?

I have a problem with the overdrive and it is back at the dealers now for repair so maybe the repair will fix it.

HI,
YES it is both, just got the truck back from the dealer they repaired the trans. but the truck is still recording twice the mileage it should from my house to town and back.
their are no codes showing up, anyone know what the problem could be and where to look and maybe a fix for it??? I really hate to take it back to the dealer.

I have been reading online about a speed sensor would this being bad cause it to record the wrong mileage???
