Recenlty, I brought in my 98' ford explorer in to a local ford dealer because of a check engine light. Dealer called me back and told me I needed new wires + plugs and told me it would cost $518 installed. He proceded to tell me that the old wires were not good and that the mechanic recommended new wires+plugs. He also told me that the mechanic diagnosed that one clyinder was not working and that there was a random misfire. I'm not sure if wires are at fault , but agreed to have it done. After debating with him about paying 5 bills for wires + plugs I decided to go for it since it was allready there and plus after all it is a ford dealer(Should have qualified techninians). A few hours later I pick up the vehicle and everything seems normal until about 10 minutes later when I stop at a red light. When I came to a stop the vehicle idled very irregular and rough and also was making a ticking noise. Also the engine was making another different tapping noise. This made me quite angry. Next thing in the morning, as soon as the service department opened I was there. I told them what happened and he told me that is was probably a loose spark plug wire or something and that they would take a look at it. A few hours later when the mechanic was finished I talked to the mechanic and he told me that those were not the right wires and that he ordered me the correct set to have installed. He told me that the wires that they installed were kinda the right wires but the springs holding them to the plugs were to loose and some off wires came off the plugs while I was driving. Kinda!!! Its either the original factory part or the wrong part!! This got me even more upset, this dealer is unbeliveable, the courage of this guys. To actually install the wrong wires!!! I'm paying them $68/hr labor to have $8/hr 18year old idoits fool around with my precious $30k explorer. This is too much. I have a few questions, I would gladly appreciate any responses if any. By the way, I currently have the 1st wires they installed in my explorer. Mechanic told me that he crimped the springs and it would be fine to drive. I will have the new set installed this wed. Questions #1. How long does it take to install wires on an 5.0explore. #2. Does ford make different types wires for the 98 explorer 5.0, or are those absolutely the wrong wires i have in my explorer? #3. What sort of damage are these wires causing to my engine. #4. what happens when those wires came loose, what kind of damage did that cause. #5. I currently feel the car is a lot weaker than before , there is barely no acceleration, Even though it does feel better than before(no rough idle now, all wires are currently on the plugs). #6. I have a ticking noise from the engine and from the exahaust. a dif mechanic told me it sounds like the lifters are making the noise. #7. Are these wires causing permanent damage to my engines performane + longevity or will the new wires fix these problems with significantly no damage to engine. My vehicle has no warranty and I got a feeling i've been had. By the way this the worst experience so far but not the only one by far. I have 2 other vehicles that used to go to this dealer but no more. Those stories i'll leave for a different occasion. ThankX for any responses I may get I know this is such a long message, just doing some venting.

I hope it wasn't Fallriver Ford!

I did my wires and it should take no more than 20 min. if you use a precut set. Also I don't think the wrong wires will cause permanent damage but will definately effect how it performs.

Wow, how did you guess it was fall river ford. Those guys are funny (customer satisfaction is our #1 priority) Also (expect the best) I love the last one. It more like (expect the WORST). Also they scraped my front bumber which they did agree to pay for. Don't buy from them and definitely do not go there for service!!!

Did you buy the vehicle there? If you did ask to speak to the owner. If I remember right his name is Garcia. I had a problem there before and I remember him saying when I bought my Explorer, " If you ever have a problem, come see me". I did and he took care of it.
