OK, Here's my first time at changing the plugs and wires for a '98 Mountianeer, 5.0L, auto. At first glance I can't even see all the plugs. I'm not going to have to do something extrodinary like lif the engine to change these things am I? How do you guys do this. Any tricks?

Also, I can tell from other postings that Bosch +4's and Taylor Spiral-Pro's are the choice around here. The Mounty has 100K+ mi and this will be the first time for wires.

Welcome to the forum! 5.0's are the easiest to change plugs on. Just take out your plastic inner fender liner deals, remove the tires, and you can easily get to all the plugs. Just have a few different length extensions and 45 degree elbows for your socket wrench. Good luck!

Thanks Sec 525

That doesn't sound too bad.

My daughters 90 Cougar requires lifting the engine, I'm told, to replace the three passenger side plugs. I never had to do that because I lucked out. At the time I was getting ready to change her plugs the air conditioning went out. At the A/C repair shop the guy had to disconnect the A/C lines running across the passenger bank of cylinders. So while he had those lines out with access now available, I asked him to change those three plugs. Job done.

Here's basically what it will look like with the fender out. You can see most of the plugs are very accessable.
