I was about to order a set of wheels for my Ex in the next few days from www.discounttiredirect.com and I decided to inquire about them just to make sure everything was cool...they're MB Motoring Phantoms, 16x8 with a -6mm offset. The only thing they didn't list was the centerbore diamter, so I figured I'd ask about that.

I get an e-mail saying that due to past complications they won't offere that wheel for my vehicle...wtf??? Why not?

What is the stock centerbore diamter, anyone know? Is that the reason, is it different, even so, woudln't I be able to use the inserts to make up for it? Or is that not the problem.

I really had my heart set on these wheels too. :(

I wonder if the reason they won't sell them to you since you have an explorer...you know they roll over if you look at them the wrong way  . I know it sounds like a dumb ass reason and it is, but uhaul is doing the same thing. Have your tried to order them by saying your vehicle is a mercury mountaineer? If not...i'd see if ranger wheels are the same and order them. I hope that makes sense. I know its a pain in the ass how everyone thinks explorers are so much more apt to roll just because of the firestone problem (nothing at all due to the explorer). That's what came to my mind when I read it...i'd give those suggestions a try.

Good Luck!

Well that's the funny thing, whenyou do a search for wheels for an explorer or mountaineer, they list nothing for them... I found these wheels by searching the brands, and know the offset I needed and everything.

But as you were posting that, I was looking at them for a '98 Ranger, and found the exact wheels I wanted, listed right there for it.

So is it safe for me to get these or not?

I'm not sure actually. I have stock wheels and have never really looked into buying new ones. I would THINK that if they have the same bolt pattern(4.5x5 i think), and back spacing it would be ok....but if I were you i'd wait until someone more knowledgeable than me chimes in, or do a search...i'm sure that ranger wheels have been discussed here. I would think that the only issue would be that the explorer is quite a bit heavier then the ranger, and the wheels might not be designed to handle the extra weight. Do a search, i'm not really that comfortable telling you that you would be ok ordering those. Just trying to be as honest as possible, i'd hate to give you bad advice.

Good Luck

I know the bolt pattern is the same, and the offset is fine too, they offered some of the same OEM rims on both vehicles. As far as weight, the sizes aren't THAT much different really.

Try searching for Ranger. The wheels I have have a larger diameter center then what the stock ones do. I have no problem with them if that is what you are inquiring about.

Yeah, I did a search on Rangers, read my previous post...they list the wheel I want for a Ranger....so I should be able to use them correct?

correct,

Ranger Rims and Explorer Rims are the same

Screw it then, I'm ordering them for a Ranger.

If people would learn that SUV's don't handle like cars, we wouldn't have this problem.
