Hey my explorer seems to engage in to 4x4 on its own so i just unplugged the plug on the back of the xfer case so the motor wont engage. Will this hurt anything for now or is it fine to leave it like this?

Only harm I could see is getting crud into the electrical connectors. Other than that it shouldn't hurt anything.
Question: Are you sure the problem is in the transfer case? One of the indications that the auto hubs (assuming you still have auto hubs) need attention is that they will engage out of the blue, causing grinding, clunking, and jerking. The shift motor on the transfer case doesn't effect the auto hubs.

Yeah i was out looking at the X and i think its going to be the auto hubs locking when they arent suppose too. another thing is that my 4x4 doesnt work. I push the button and the transfer case doesnt engage. Ive have it for a few months and never could get it to work, but once. What things should i look at for that.
