Yellow ABS light on - cheap scan tool?

Well, the light has come on for the past few days. I have a 2002 XLS 4wd. I'd like to diagnose this myself. Does anyone know of a reasonable source for the scan tool?

ABS unfortunately are proprietary, the cheap ones usually don't read ABS codes. After going through several ABS problems, i bought some software for my laptop and paid extra for the enhanced codes, ABS, EATC, are supported. Bowser Electronics, paid about $225, very happy, cool software. Someone may know of a cheaper one.

auto value or any parts store will usually run a diagnostics check for free. I know they do for the SES light, not sure about the ABS
