90% of the time my Explorer will be used for road travel, city and highway. The other 10% will be when off road when I go hunting and camping. My suspension is stock, any suggestions on a good road shock set-up? I heard mention of using Monroe. I am looking for comfort of ride as well as an improvement in handling.

As far as the on road travel I would suggest useing the monroe sensatrac...they are great for road travel and the confort of the ride rocks! Although I also like the Rancho 9000's. I use them on my Explorer. They have a knob on the shock that you can addjust for for the stiffness of the ride (1-5). I am on the road about 50/50 of the time so when I am on the road I will set the shock to number 2 or 3 setting. Then when I go off road I will set it up to 5 for the added stiffness. They are very easy to adjust and takes about five seconds. I really like them. the only difference is the price. The monroe I think are around $49-59 and the Rancho shocks are around $59-69 depends on how much money you have. But both shocks work great! hope that helps!

If you're gonna spend 49-69 on the monroe or Rancho shocks for your stock suspension, do your self a favor and get the Edlebrock IAS shocks. I got mine at carpartsonsale.com for about $55 a piece. No adjustment knob, but are able to change according to the road conditions. I absolutely love them. Look around all the other postings and you'll see a lot of similar testimonials. Good luck,

Rooster,
I just put Rancho 5000's on my '93 and love them (It's only been a day though<G> ). I drive clients around all day and the ride is good. They also seem to keep me stable when I tested them off road yesterday. They ran about 42/each +125 installation.
