my 96 xlt with 195k miles on it still has the original shocks. I am looking to replace them and need advice. I drive my xlt about 800 miles a week on highway. I do load up the xlt when I camp with my sons by filling the back up behind the rear seat, have a tow bar for 3 bikes, and use a 15 cubic foot roof carrier. We only camp about 4 times per year, and other than that I do not load the xlt up extremely.

I do no off roading and I am just looking to replace my shocks with something better than replacement ford shocks that will ride good and can handle my camping excursions. Also, looking for a shock that is not overly high priced. After all, I am a sinlge dad and don't race around with my car. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome! I'm in the same boat, lots of highway miles, 183k, single dad, need shocks.
I did have mine replaced once, they put on monroe sensatracs at the dealership. I did a search on here for shocks and I'm either going to get the monroe reflex or the gabrial vst.

i recently put monroe sensatracs on my X and i relly like them. in the past 7 mos. alone i put on kyb's, they were too rough. then edelbrocks, they were too rough. 3's a charm, put on the sensatracs and the ride comfort is great and they even handle great. noy bad deals at sears either. most of the time it's free installation.

I put Rancho RSX's on and I noticed a small change in the quality of ride. I noticed an even better ride quality with new Wild Country A/T's. My X with the new shocks and tires ride awesome now. In my case the tires made the biggest difference.

i would get monroe sensatracs or reflex for a softer ride and gabriels for a little stiffer ride. i've heard good things about ranchos also but they might be on the expensive side.

Hey Alphabets13, What type of Sensatracs did you get? and where?
