Ok I have a 92 X with the auto tranny we all love. My X has about 190,000 on it. The motor and tranny have been replaced with a pair that has 65,000 miles on them. When the truck is cold (its maybe 10 above here most mornings) and i start it for the first time when I shift it into gear it takes about 2 seconds to engaged. The motor runs at about 1000RPM when its cold, if i shift into gear it jumps about 5-900RPM's maybe more. This is the same for reverse or forword. When the truck is warm and has been run awhile this delay is almost unnoticeabel (still there, but just barely). I did notice the tranny was almost to the add mark (before anybody shouts ADD!, I plan on it, but was going to do a filter kit and refill, hence I havent yet). I am not driving the truck atm so was going to do the filter kit and such (the only reason I didnt add, so I didnt waste). I'm not real up on this Ford trannY, does this tranny get real fussy when it low? could it be that simple? I just bought the truck and from the driving I have done the tranny works great once it engages, smooth shift and from what i can tell at the correct times when driving normal or under load. I see when it was swapped a very large tranny cooler was added (I would expect this to extend the trannies life). The truck has had all the fun stuff done, rebuilt front end, new u joints, all the fun stuff that many miles would be touhg on. I'm just a bit concerend on the tranny now, hopefully a tranny filter and fluids will solve the problem. I have als read a bit here and see they can get a sticky valve body? Might this be the problem? If I'm tearing stuff apart, should I look at this too? I have above average mechanical ability, but most is with older GM stuff, hence my Ford knowledge isnt to good. I have rebuilt a few Turbohydromatic GM's from the 70 and 80's before all the electronic stuff was the rage. I must admit the Tranny scares me a small amount with the checkballs and springs.. So would prefer not to mess with it.. but if its a good spot to start, I'm not going to do it twice.
any advice, suggestions? (besides adding fluid).. Oh that brings up another question.. add mark is a PINT on this tranny? or is it a Quart?
thanks
