Hello all. Finally de-lurking.
For those of you who have nothing better to do...
I am Mark, the owner of a Black 95 Sport, bone stock except for aftermarket Pioneer receiver. Aquired it in 2001 with 56,000 miles for $3200 from the car dealership were I worked after trying my hand at car sales for about a year after being laid off from a major computer company after 17 years. I quickly put another 56,000 miles in roughly eight months driving for a courier service while between jobs after I quit the car business. Now has about 140,000 miles. It is pretty much a third vehicle we use for sport and utility. We use it to haul our utility trailer when we go camping with the family and to Petit Le Mans every year. It has been a very reliable vehicle. So far, no major malfunctions. I have had to replace the thermostat, O2 sensor, TP sensor, shocks, stereo, battery, tires, front rotors/pads, and soon to be rear rotors/pads, minor tune-up and several dash board bulbs. Since it is paid for, I intend to drive it until the proverbial wheels fall off. It does not use any oil and gets about 16mpg city and 21mpg on the highway @70mph. I have religiously kept the oil changed and I have used Mobil1 Syn for most of the time I have had it. I know the exploders have iffy transmissions, so I have had the fluid changed at 20-25k intervals. I did have one scare with the tranny when my wife called me to say it was shifting roughly. I searched the internet and found a Ford forum posting from a guy who was advising folks with similar issues, that it may very well be the throttle position sensor, and at $35, was worth trying before righting off the tranny. Picked up and new TP at A-Z and it did the trick. I just put a fresh set of Michelin X LT's after having Dunlop Radial Rover AT's. They ride a little better, but do not handle as well or grip in the mud as well as the Dunlops, but they should last longer. With gas now at $3/gal, it stays parked a little more than it used to. My wife drives our Miata and I drive our Protege5.
I have found this forum to be very helpful in resolving problems and making repair decisions for my Ex. Thanks to all who have contributed and the creation/running of this forum.
