I'm very much considering doing this in the near future.

I figured a lot of off-road people might be interested (or may have already done this?) and that people would like to see some pictures.

I am also trying to find information on what all i need in order to do it. I understand the whole bracketry thing etc., but i don't really know what else i need in order to use this york.

what do i need for a clutch?
do i need an oil water seperator?
what else is needed?

I am interested in the exact thing.

I know If you use the right model the oil/water seperator is not needed. There is a whole writeup on it on a heep online.

These things produce like 7 CFM at 1500 rpm!!!

any chance you know where that write-up is?

help me find the info i need and i'll definitely do any explorer specific r and d work like next week- and yours will be easy.

broncoair.com sells kits for 5.0

Here is a picture of the York belt driven air compressor:

Harbor Freight sells 2 stage compressor heads that could be fabricated to run off the belts.

i got all the major parts ordered today- so far it's looking like it will end up even cheaper than expected.

will have parts tomorrow

who did you order your parts through? and where did you get the compressor?

checker

i got a hook-up there. looks like the clutch, compressor, and check valve will be well under 200.

one day turnaround too!

I picked up the stuff after work today-

compressor with clutch (v belt- darn it) $108
pulley for serp. belt $15
lubricant for r12 compressor $6
hardware for mounting compressor $2.50
check valve and various fittings to make adapt it to my leader hose $17
braided stainless leader hose $free (stolen off of one of my broken viairs)
oil water seperator with dump valve at bottom $20
oil breather air filter (for intake side- looks like a 3" k&n) $7
assorted hoses and 3/8s air line $free from past projects

haven't started the metal bracketing work- but that will be free as well since i have a couple sheets of 1/4" and 3/8s steel laying around and plenty of cutting wheels for my grinder. I may go out and buy a new chop saw as well- just to ease the construction of the brackets (ok, really because i want one).

plan is to somehow add the slightly smaller serpentine belt pulley that i bought to the existing clutch- no clue how just yet.

the compressor itself will likely be mounted up right behind the passenger side headlight facing the firewall (180 degrees reversed from my other accessories). this will force me to redo my air intake- but i just don't think it will fit anywhere else/any other way.

got it in today

ended up welding a 6.25" steel pulley to the v belt clutch to save the money on a new clutch.

thing works freaking amazing!
