December Sales

2011: 13,872
2010: 10,099

A 37% increase.

37% might seem low compared to the average increase of 155% from Jan to Nov but remember that those months the MY2011 was being compared to the phased out MY2010. The December figures are more of a direct comparison since many if not all of those sales were for the new MY2011.

For the year. 135,705 were sold, compared to 60,687 in 2010. A 124% increase! Here's the entire press release.
___________________________
DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 4, 2012 – Ford brand 2011 U.S. sales increased 17 percent, totaling 2,062,915 vehicles, sealing the brand’s first three-point market share gain over three consecutive years since 1970. Total Ford Motor Company sales for the year increased to 2,148,806 vehicles, up 11 percent for the year.

“The year finished on a high note, with industry sales momentum strengthening as the year came to a close,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “We saw Ford sales strengthen as well, posting our best December retail sales month since 2005 and closing the year as America’s best-selling brand.”

Small car, utilities and truck sales drove Ford’s marketplace performance in 2011. Small car sales were up 25 percent in 2011 with 244,291 cars sold.

Ford Fusion had a record year with 248,067 vehicles sold.

Ford brand utility sales totaled 579,626 vehicles in 2011, up 31 percent, making it the best-selling utility brand in America. Sales were paced by the Explorer, up 124 percent, with 135,704 sold, and record Escape sales of 254,293, up 33 percent for the year, including an all-time monthly sales record in December of 25,574 vehicles.

In December, Ford brand sales were 201,737, up 16 percent from a year earlier. Ford sold 68,278 F-Series pickups in December, representing its best December sales results since 2006. For the year, F-Series sales totaled 584,917 trucks, making it the only vehicle to break the 500,000 vehicle sales mark last year.

For 2012, Ford expects the global economy to expand in the 3 percent range, extending the global economic recovery to a third consecutive year. Global industry sales are projected to be in the range of 75 million to 85 million.

In the U.S., Ford expects the economy to expand 2 to 3 percent in 2012 and industry sales to be in the range of 13.5 million to 14.5 million.

Economies in Europe are tracking at different speeds. Ford expects industry sales in the European 19 markets to be in the range of 14.0 million to 15.0 million units in 2012.

And I bet the December 2011 sales numbers (10,099 units) were "inflated" due to many owners finally taking delivery after pre-orders, waiting, and delays from Ford.

Ford Tops In Canadian Sales

Just read an article in the paper that Ford Motor Co. of Canada claimed the auto sales crown in 2011 for the second consecutive year. GM was still second but dropped to its smallest market share in 100 years. GM sold only 11,238 more vehicles than Chrysler which could take over second place in 2012 as long as the company continues to offer dealer incentives.

No offense, but when does Chrsler/fiat NOT offer incentives- its a joke.

Here are some later numbers/info.

“F-Series and Explorer showed considerable strength in April, posting their best results in almost a decade,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service. “We also saw another breakout month for Fusion, with continued strength in the Western region. Overall, industry sales continued the rebound from January and February and are on a path of steady growth.”

April sales highlights (vs. April 2014):
*F-Series sales totaled 63,387 vehicles — making for the truck’s best April since 2006. EcoBoost continues to play a big role in F-150 sales, comprising 42 percent of the truck’s overall retail engine mix. Combined, Ford’s V6 engines — the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and the 3.7-liter Duratec — represented 55 percent of F-150 sales in April.
*Explorer had its best April sales performance since 2005 with 16,629 vehicles sold — up 17 percent.
*All Ford cars, including the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Taurus, and Mustang, posted sales decreases on a year-over-year basis.
*All Ford trucks, including F-Series, E-Series, Transit Connect, and Heavy Trucks, posted sales gains on a year-over-year basis.
*Of all Ford crossovers, only the Explorer and Expedition posted sales gains on a year-over-year basis; sales of the Escape, Edge, and Flex were down.
*With 6,803 vehicles sold in April, Lincoln sales were off 11 percent against a strong year-ago comparison. Year-to-date, Lincoln sales are up 21 percent, and the new MKC compact crossover is coming this summer.

209,994 Explorers sold in 2014 including 20,000 Police versions. Best sales year since 2005. Man, what a POS that Explorer is lol.

Lot's of buzz about the upcoming revised model. I think that is having a big effect.
That and the fact that there is now much more competition in that market.

Ford Explorer Sales Decrease 9.45 Percent To 65,902 Units In Second Quarter 2018

Ford Explorer Sales Numbers Second Quarter 2018

It clearly sold well, but the decrease is partially due to sub par management that allowed Ford to lag redesign by one year compared to it's competitors, not to mention that we may be nearing the late stages of an economic cycle.

While I see your point about the economical cycle, when you look at the info in post 36, the total SUV sales of all brands did not decline, it rose overall by 8.67% so far this year.
From the chart, it looked to me like more people bought Highlanders than Explorers this year.
Consequently, these numbers look like more to do with performance and less with economic cycle.
