KKM - remove bottom of stock airbox?

guys, ive had my KKM on for about 3 months and i never really thought about this until i showed it to a friend of mine...when i installed the KKM, i left the bottom of the stock airbox in there. i kinda figured it would help keep water away from the filter, but he said i should probably take it out because its restricting. what does everyone think? what has everyone done with their KKM install? keep in mind that i did this on a 4.0 SOHC.

I left the bottom of mine in. When I have to pass cali visual inspection for smog ill just take the KKM out and pop the top of the box back on. It seems alot easier.

I got rid of the entire box but kept the mounting plate to mount the KKM to.

I junked the bottom, but left the plate. I wouldn't think it would matter much at all, so do whatever is easiest, if it mattered for inspection I would definately leave the bottom.
