Turning off the airbags?

So the other day, a couple of buddies and me are launching around in my ranger, and we're hitting stuff hard and the airbag goes off... scared the crap out of me.

so the deal is, im building a prerunner explorer and dont wanna change the steering wheel just yet, is there a way i can rig a switch so that i can turn the airbags off when i launch the explorer. and then turn the airbag back on when i hit the streets?

There's a fuse for the airbags. You could just pull it out or put a switch in that line. I'd suggest disconnecting the airbags before you put a switch in so you don't accidentally set them off.

Didn't the Rangers have a switch to turn the 'bags on and off?

some trucks (generally only single-cab) have a switch to turn off the passenger side airbag only.
