Hello everyone,
My wife was driving her Explorer today and the car started jumping and hesitating and the check light came on. She was close to our home so she immediately headed home and got it in the garage before it died. I came home tonight and this is what I'm hearing...yikes! I can't get it started. Sounds like marbles hitting each other. Any ideas?

Yes...I have the 4.0L V6

Any idea as to the cost of repair if it's the timing chain or tensioner?

Not cheap, that's for sure.
I have to repair mine (broken at highway speed, so I got a few valves damaged), and bottom-line was $1.300 or so.
Such failure it's a real pain in the ***
Hope in your case it will not turn out so bad.
Good luck:thumbsup:

I would also say chains, guides, and tensioners need to be changed. Along the way you should also do the crankshaft seal, timing cover gaskets, and valve cover gaskets. The crankshaft pulley bolt is torque-to-yield, so you will need to replace that, too.

Motor is blown... :(

Vehicle had 140k on it...I may be moving on with another vehicle...thanks for all of the suggestions...
