I went to change the brake light on my mom's 98 explorer and the bulb was completely filled with water. Can I get just the gasket for the socket or do I need to replace the whole socket? Or does the problem lie elsewhere?

Leak?

If you suspect the water is coming in at the socket, you might want to just apply RTV around it and see if that stops the water. If it holds just call it fixed until the next bulb change then reseal it.

i've only seen the gasket come with a new socket. get the tail light dried out and put some rtv, or clear silicon on the old bulb gaskets for a cheap fix. more than likely you'll never have to remove it again.

My wifes subi did that..the bulb actually had water in it too!!

Ya the actual bulb was filled up....
