He got a car. I drove it today. Rides good (like a truck)

I am happy to see it has a rebuilt tranny. It also has the notorious back crack.

idk. The guy lives in town so I trust him.

IS the overall feeling on this explorer "good"?

Doesnt look bad, has the notorious 4.0 SOHC but by 2005 Ford had the timing chains pretty well figured out. He says "rear tow" but all 3rd gens come with a factory hitch. That's a 1 1/4" hitch and it does not have the tow package.

Hard to give you a for sure answer without seeing in person. But if it's what you're looking for go for it. Looks well maintained
FYI little pricey for around here. But nobody wants explorers here. Just pick up trucks

In the area I live in, cars are always on the upper end in price.

Buying a car in craigslist takes a lot of risk, you could end up with a good deal or somebody's problem. That's the main reason you have to ask a lot of questions. Lots of cars in craigslist are being sold by;
- people who doesn't want to deal with an unexpected issue in the future and wants to dump the car/truck
- shady dealers who posed as owners
- doesn't like/want the car anymore for legit reason (swap for economy, too small/big, extra car, cant' pay loan/repair)
- people who flip cars (buy old/broken cars/truck restore/repair and resell)
- buyer's remorse

I know craigslist is risky. I know the guy, and he lives in town.

I got him down to $6,000
I think that is a fair price

6 grand isn't bad. Long as the trans shifts smooth, rear diff is quiet, and the timing chains aren't making noise I'd buy it.

6 is fair for an 05. Ex's have taken a dump in the used car market. Would have been worth 8k not that long ago.
Mostly 03's and 02's on CL nowadays. Buy it only for the long haul. I think they look nice and will for some time. You'll get your money out if it (the money you'll put into it) by keeping it as long as you can.
If it's mechanically sound, the price is right.

Thanks for everyone's insight, I appreciate it.

I bought the truck and I am picking it up Monday.

Update: Little bit of delay on the sale the original seller signed the title in the buyer spot

Now the seller is in Mexico and I can't do anything until he comes back and gets a new title for us to sign.

I'll keep you all posted.

The guy is back from Mexico and said he is going to DMV for a new title.

In the meantime, I stopped at PepBoys and picked up a few goodies (See Pics)

Hmmm...Pepboys huh? Some might say that's strike one. :)

It's what's near by! Lol

The tax is also 3.5% in the area compared to 7% where I live.

3.5? Damn, I thought 6 was low in GA!

Now you see why I go to PepBoys haha

You must be down near vineland, millvile area for that sales tax
