Silly question. What direction does my engine rotate? Clockwise or counter clockwise? I need to manually turn the engine and I forgot to check. Now I am too far beyond putting the starter back on.

I am assuming that is facing the front of the truck?

Like stated above, the engine turns CW (clockwise) when viewing the engine from the front. However, if you need to manually rotate the engine for something, it does not matter which way you turn it (by hand), but remember, if you use the bolt for the HB, turning CCW could loosen the bolt, BUT, if you use the HB bolt turn CW, you might over tighten it.

I've been taught to never turn an engine backwards.

On an engine with a timing belt rather than a chain, you can get in trouble turning backwards depending on how the belt tensioners are set up and how much slack is in the belt.
