2wd 5.0 how to make snow worthy

How well (or not) did the limited slip rear diff work? One wheel spinning with other stationary? Or both rear wheels spinning and rear sliding sideways? If only one wheel spins, time for new clutches in diff. If both wheels spin, dropping pressures a bit and adding weight to back of truck.

1997 Pre-PATS ignition key weirdness (or is it me...)

Both the keys and lock wear and at some point, start giving problems. The.good news, the lock cylinder is both inexpensive and very easy to replace. Better news is new door locks are even less expensive and can be bought un-keyed so its easy to match new door locks to the new ignition key.

    98 Explorer AC wiring

Yep, a/c wiring is the trickiest bit of the Expo V8 - Ranger swap. Control logic between the two is very different. The Ranger should have a 4 pin connector below the master cylinder that has/had the high pressure switch wires

13 Mustang Rims on 2nd Gen?

The 'Stang rims have a very different offset than the oem Explorer ones, but nothing a decent set of hub centric spacers can't correct. Just measure the back spacing of both rims, subtract the smaller from larger. Then subtract 1/2 the difference of rim widths. That'll keep center line of...

    evap core

Yep, evap core not that difficult. 3 fasteners under hood and very bottom one in passenger's floor board area and the whole housing comes free. Move cruise control module, windshield washer and coolant reservoir. As noted, you'll want to replace a/c accumulator. Best to wait until just about...

    Lean condition codes- both banks??

MAF, FPR or fuel pump are all suspects for both banks going lean at same time. Try cleaning the MAF 1st then check fuel pressure.

    Explorer Speedo Calibration Limit

Wonder if a Dakota Digital interface might be the answer. Grab the speed signal output from the ABS unit (grey/black wire) and adjust the Dakora output to keep the PCM and speedo happy. Not a ton of money.

    NO A/C

Auto temp control or manual? Either can fail. Under hood, PCM, low pressure switch near a/c blower and high pressure switch near battery all control relay for a/c clutch. Pressure switches pretty easy to unplug and test bypass with bent paper clip. If either have failed, they can be replaced...

    Vacuum Reservoir confusion...

Dorman 47076 is about $15.00, might need a couple vacuum line connectors. Reservoir should have vacuum check valve built into it, or you can add one to the inlet.

    Inline Filter Placement/HVAC??

Commonly, the available in-line filters are sized to fit the liquid high pressure line between the condenser and orifice tube. Just before the orifice tube is likely the best place. But... with a new condenser, I think just taking the time to flush out the hose assemblies is all that is...

    pats help

Just ignore PATS. The 97 5.0 PCM has no PATS so no worries. Only accommodation you'll need to make on the Ranger side of PATS is to permanently ground the starter solenoid's relay. Single wire at that 42 pin connector will go to ground rather than to the Ranger's PCM.

    2nd Gen radio size...

Yes, a double din unit will go in. Adapter kits are available to fill in the minor gaps, the ones I've seen need the support rail to actually carry the weight of the head unit.

    heater vacumm trouble

The heater control valve's vacuum source shares a plug under the blower motor with the vacuum source from the vacuum reservoir under the air cleaner. Both tubes pass through the bottom of the air box and route to the a/c - vent control. Pretty sure the heater control valve tube is "T'd" to the...

    4R70W Mods/TSBs Before Install?

Certainly take the time to pop out the accumulator piston and check the bore and the springs. Broken accumulator springs is a common failure in the 4R70W

np 203 transfer case swap and need a vss source

If the transfer case won't support a VSS, consider using the ABS module and G-Force sensor from a '98 - '01 Explorer and add the wiring between the two. The.later ABS modules DO use the ABS wheel/axle sensors to calc and generate the same speed signal as the VSS. No need to open up the...

    will 16 inch 2005 explorer wheels fit a 1998 explorer ? ?

As others have said, only real difference is in offset. Ths 2nd gen wheels only have 10-15mm of offset, 3rd gens are more like 30-45mm. 1" - 1 1/4" hub centric spacers will get you very close to centering the tire/wheel the way the OEM rims would without spacers.

Need with clock spring and steering wheel radio controls

Don't think you'll need to swap clock springs. Pretty sure both the radio and cruise control buttons use the same communications bus to signal the drivers commands to their respective units. The only differences in the number of circuits in the clock spring are from the single force vs dual...

    5.0 HO

Easy answer to the "what cam fits?" question is yes it'll take an HO Cam. In truth, the HO's got forged rotating internals and a cam that moves the power band up the rpm range. The Expo/Mounty's got cast internals, a cam that keeps the power lower in the rpm range and generally, the best...

    Question about sct tuners?

Pretty sure the SCT uses an algorithm to modify the OEM programming so no, you don't need need one pre-configured for '98 5.0 Explorer.

1993 Explorer 2 Door Sport 2WD ALL new A/C problems

With good air flow across condenser and radiator, you should see 35-40 on low side, 185-205 on high.

    Mustang Bullitt Rims

A 235 60 17 or 235 65 17 would be very close in rolling diameter to the oem 235 75 15 tires. Think you'll find the need for 1 - 1.5" spacers for the rims to clear front brakes and control arms. Back spacing is way different between the 'Stang and Mounty rims

ENJOY! How was this still drivable!?

Wow! Looks like something pretty darn solid bounced around in there. Gouged and dented carrier, a ton of shattered teeth. Anything of note in the debris pile?

    97 5.0 in 00 Sport

PATS wont be an issue with the '97. Biggest single issue will be fuel system. You'll need to remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator in the fuel tank and add a fuel return line from the 5.0's return back down to fuel filter area where the Sport's return is. Grab the front half of the return from...

    1996 Explorer EGR Valve repair

Actually, the DPFE sensed EGR was a mid year change for the MY97 5.0 so you and find both the earlier position sensed, internally ported EGR and the DPFE sensed external tube from the exhaust manifold EGR from the 1997 model year Expo's.

    99 sport 4x4 5.0 engine swap

Would all depend on how deep into badass you want to go and what that means to you. My only regret in my own 5.0 swap was in doing it much earlier. But, my effort was for a daily driver/work truck not a high perf build. So my total swap was well under $1000 and only off the road for a week...
