Not trying to derail the post... Oddly my local PD just put in service a Polaris Razor in department colors, pursuit lighting etc. Similar 'funny' vibe when it goes buzzing by on the roadways. And we're not as 'urban' of an environment as NYC.

I have a similar but reverse issue. I have two yellow labs and their whitish hair gets everywhere. The Mrs. has black carpet and black leather in her car and hates taking the dogs in it because of the white hair.

While I am not shocked at the decision to cut the aging Taurus platform I am a little shocked at the decision to cut the Fusion. I was hoping they would at least attempt a more aggressive design change, something similar to the styling Toyota adopted for the Camry Sport models.

Have you considered using yellow tint/film over the existing lens? The Mustang boys have been putting yellow film over their grill fog lights for years. Would be a simple/cheap alternative. If you end up not liking it just remove the film.

I agree with Peter re: the issue with the lift gate is likely the hydraulic strut no longer supporting the weight of the gate properly. Is it simply 'falling or sagging' down or is it trying to close under power? About the automatic lights... I have a 15' and find that mine tend to not come on...

And... did it finally sputter to a halt or were you able to pull into a gas station?
