I have a 95 XLT, most of the time it works fine. My problem is that in cold weather (under 30 degrees) my 4WD stops working. The light for 4WD comes on as usual, but within the next 2 minutes, I get about a 1 1/2 second beep from somewhere in the dash, and I have no 4WD. The dash light stays lit, no blinking like I see if there are other issues. It just never applies any power to the front wheels. The beep is the only visible or audible indication I get that anything is wrong.

I've checked all the connections I can find for tightness and corrosion, including the vacuum system for the front axle. This situation never occurs till the temperature outside gets to 30 or lower.

Once the temperature rises, everything is back to normal.

Any ideas of anything else to check?

Thanks,

Ed

I'd change the fluid and check the wiring connector on the case.
