Ford=China wtf Water Pump

My water pump is starting to go for my 5L so since a PITA to change I figured I would go with a Ford one as usually histirically I have had better luck then AutoZone or Advanced Auto

so I ordered one from Ford. When I looked at it, it was a generic pump, no Ford numbers stamped in the casting, just a little round white sticker that said "Ford" with the Ford p/n and the words "MADE IN CHINA"

NICE!

I just should have went to Autozone and saved $40 bucks

By the way, how do you know that the water pump is about to go. How many miles on the truck? My 98 5L is reaching 120K with the original pump and I wonder whether I need to replace it and when.

dcdyd- one way to tell is if the WP is weeping, that can be a precursor...

I just looked at my on-the-shelf Motorcraft and it's not a generic...
