I am posting a problem my dad had with his 2003 Eddie Bauer Explorer with 25,000 miles. A heads up if anyone else has a similar problem. After going on a trip pulling a boat the transmision felt like it couldn't find the gear when down shifting(passing) and you would have to almost come to a complete stop to let it find the gear. The check engine light never came on so it didn't throw a code and the mechanics had a heck of a time finding the problem. It turned out to be the cable from the gear select to the transmision being loose. They tighten it up and all is well now. Hope this helps some one down the road. Good luck.
