  • I have a 1997 Explorer XLT 4x4, the problem with my explorer is when I cut the wheel deep it kicks into 4wd and I have to get on a hill to disengage it and sometimes it doesn't work, I've been told it's been it could be a sensor, could be a motor on the transfer case, could be the clutch fork in the four wheel drive? Also the 4wd lights are flashing sometimes going down the road, Thanks again.

You’ll need the codes. It’s not the shift motor. Isn’t a 97 in automatic 4wd all the time (there is no 2wd setting?). Also, this is your profile, not a place where you post asking for help. Best bet would be a new thread in the “stock 95-2001” section.
