Currently the owner of a '10 Explorer. It's a 4.0 sohc 2wd XLT. This truck is solid and drives true and straight, the larger size works well for a mid-size without too much loss in performance. Mileage is between 17 and 21 mpg. The Explorer pulls my boat in and out of the lake with ease and can tow capably a decent size trailer.
I was on number 3 of the second generation Explorers. These trucks are very capable and comfortable, they really put the utility in suv. Kind of strange but I keep going backwards with the year model however each one has less miles than the previous. Until this one, the 2010. First was a 1999 XLT 4-Door, then 1998 XLT 4-door and my last one was a 1997 XLT 4-door. All have had the same 4.0 sohc which I really like, near V8 power with exceptional fuel mileage, upwards of 27 on the interstate. The first Explorer, the 1999 I was involved in a wreck and I credit that truck with saving my life, otherwise I would still be driving it. The 1998 was dependable but had alot of issues which I mostly ignored and I paid the price for my non actions. Then that 1997 is a fine example of a 90's X, it was garaged most of its life until 2 years ago and it shows and I park it in a carport. The Explorer owners of this website are a big help in keeping this one on the road, running as well as looking exceptional. Thanks for all the info on this forum, old threads and new. I will help where I can and appreciate anything you all do to help me.
