  • I have a intermitent issue with the HVAC fan on a 2001 Sport Trac.
    - Fan lost 2nd speed about 2 years ago, 1st, 3rd and 4th speeds work fine.
    - No unusual noise out of the fan motor at any time.
    - Within the last month on occasions the fan will not start up upon starting the vehicle if it has sat for days or upwards to 8 hours.
    - After 30 - 40 minutes fan will come back on............usually. When the fan starts up the air flow is immediate. No hesitation.
    - This issue seems to be thermal (temperature) related. Temps below 40F seem to cause the fan not to start up.
    - Need advise on what this issue could be. I believe it could be the resistor block located on the fan housing by the engine. If that is the case what else besides the washer/coolant reservoir and cruise control have to be removed?

    Any suggestions will be appreciated
