yeah, for sure. I agree about the pods. we sat and brainstormed many other ideas at numerous shows this summer and decided to go this route. The amount of design and fabrication that would have been needed to have them telescope far enough out of the tailgate was simply prohibitive. the best way to do it would have requred lots of welding and repainting the tailgate when i was done etc. It could have been done simply with some smaller speakers (but i really wanted the 5.25" component set)
I also sort of think that the whole rear sound stage is outside of the "rules". I know that the tv in the back is a "gimmick" type of situation but i'm ok with that. It certainly does its job of drawing in attention. So i agree with you on that, but did it anyways just because i wanted to do something to really draw attention into the vehicle in a sea of newer more expensive trucks at shows. Also, i couldn't have forced everyone to get up close to the speakers. with those pods they will be set like 20 feet away from the truck. i've found that at the most recent shows that we get 8 or 10 folding chairs set up and people pretty much fill them all day. i need the rear channels to accomadate the space for all of them. besides, don't i get a little leniency for having 19 speakers in the front sound stage with 5.1 surround all installed in the truck?
thanks for the feedback, and i agree with where your coming from (have had the same thoughts myself)
