I have the same thing - except mine is XM radio. It says "XM Ready" on it. I was thinking the same as you - maybe we just need an antennae on the roof?
Close, you need the XM/sirius box, and the antenna, and the obvious connections. The box translates the signal and sends it to your HU. The 'box' is pretty small and can be mounted pretty easily under the front seat. Routing where your antenna goes can be a bit tricky depending on which antenna you get...

you need the reciever and antena.
The two ran me a little over $100.00 from Crutch field.
Speaking of antenna, I put mine on the back roof by the wing.
The wing hides it and you cant even see it from the ground.
I put a slit in the rear seal for the wire.
100% leak free and barely noticable.
