The motor was pulled and a new oil pump put in, and pan and pickup tube cleaned. Ran fair for a few minutes with average oil pressure BUT sporadic top end knock or click. The driver side exhaust manifold IS leaking, as a broken bolt needs to be pulled out and replaced. If it wasn't for the clicking, or knocking noise, I'd suspect it was the sending unit. Is this worth sending to a garage, or should I get another motor? This has been a real difficult vehicle to work on! (Hoping it's not bearings...got 183K on this thing...)

possibility is that you didn't secronize your oil pump with your camshaft gears, also there's a good chance they didn't open and close the pressure releif piont on pump housing, so it can't build enough internal pressure, you have a lound enough know to hear it, my words of advice would be rebuild the entire motor, knocks don't just disappear

I guess I worded it wrong. It's a click that you hear when the idle goes lower. When the throttle picks up it goes away. Today the oil pressure stayed steady. Confusing, and hard to describe here. Have a guy looking at it today...will give an update after he checks it out.

Senders are a common problem. Easy to replace. Pull the drivers side front wheel. Pull the flexible liner out and look through right below the AC compressor and you can see the sender.

I would fix the exhaust leak first and see where you are. I'm putting my money on when the leak is fixed, the knocking will go away.

Thought we had an oil pressure issue?

he thinks it's an oil pressure issue because of the clicking/knocking sound however he also mentioned that the oil pressure is steady which means the problem is most likely somewhere else, in this case most likely the exhaust manifold since it is leaking. It's going to be fixed anyway, might as well do that first before spending time diagnosing
