Post you DVD system pics

To get around the park brake issue, you just put the wire that would normally go to the parkbrake, straight to earth. Just join it into the black wire, and it will work all the time.

Wrong. That only works on select head units. Others have other devices internally that still will not let it work when the vehicle is in motion unless you have a bypass device.

heres mine..avic-n2..getting a avic-n4 soon
as far as other tvs..i have 2 7" myron and davis tvs w/ the headrest but the headrest is just way too big for me and a 7" is too big for the original headrest..so putting those in my 01 sport
so to add some screens for the back i plan on buying 2 10" flip downs put one for the 2nd row and one for the 3rd row

Actually, it's not wrong. If it is, then the advice about needing a module is wrong.

I know 100% for certain that it works JVC and Kenwood units and other players that work the same as Kenwood/JVC. It would be great if you could post a list of manufacturers/units that need a special bypass module, instead of just posting "wrong".

I'm interested in the image you have on the screen - does that actually work - if so, what runs it?

thats like a program that comes w/ the avic-n2 and newer ones (don't belive the avic-n1 has that option)
Yes it does work
the options you have are:
side acceleration
acceraltion (g-forces)
slope
compass
clock
volts
theres a few more i can't think of now..but the one in the middle is the speedometer and that you can't change..but it does work and it is more accurate than the OEM speedometer(checked it w/ a police radar:D )

I know for a fact that the Z-1 needs a bypass device because I have one! There were moldels made in seperate times of the year and the first half of the year, either you can flick your head lights which is a pain in the butt, or you can get a bypass circuit or module. The model made in the second half of the year...Yes it can be grounded. http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html
Ignorant...And the N-3 cannot be bypassed by grounding the ebrake. Do some research before you come on here talking like you know what you are talking about.

And if you READ...I said SELECT MODELS. I don't care about Kenwood or JVC's. I am talking about Alpines, and some Pioneer units. The only one that I think you can ground the ebrake of the Pioneer line is the N-1.

The AVIC-Z2 has a software update that allows a simply ground. Check out www.avic411.com. I've been in the process of doing way too much research on these. Eventually, and hopefully sooner than later, I'm installing a Kenwood DDX-8019+Navigation unit.

^^^I have been looking on that site today to make sure I have not missed any updates on my head unit.

So I am not allowed to come on here and talk about what I know, but you are? Get real. I stated that a simple grounding works - I should have limited it to the models I know it works for, and now have.

You stated that simple grounding doesn't work for selected models, but failed to even list what models you were talking about. So don't call me ignorant. And I probably know as much as I need to know about the stuff I am talking about - I don't pretend to be an expert in anything, but can give correct advice in context, rather than just calling people names. But it's OK, I see where you're from, and that does explain a few things to me.

^^^I failed to list?..Read. Look at my post a couple above, and it talks about the Z-1. That's right, I am from gool ole US of A. No one said you cannot come on here and talk about what you don't know. Don't make false accusations. Just know what you are talking about. What started this is that you said to ground the ebrake and it will work on the first page.

LOL!

CPLDOZIER - One does not a list make. One could be the exception to the rule, and, infact, it could be that one manufacturer could be the exception to the rule of simply grounding the wire, but that would make me right, so maybe I am wrong? But as you don't care about JVC or Kenwood (who knows why - they are very good products), then I guess your list is the definitive one and anyone using anything else or posting other options is ignorant. Oh, and I was not necessarily referring to the country.

ghoster - that unit looks great (and it also looks like ti has the advantage of grounding the wire). If mine wasn't so good (but without those functions), I would be looking at something like that if I was buying new.

JCUZ- Who said I don't care about JVC or Kenwood? I had a Kenwood double din here in Japan in my car. I am very open to any unit out there. When I bought the Z1, it was top of the line. Which is why I got it. Not now however. Why do you keep putting words in my mouth? It is like you are trying to instigate.

Oh, and Alabama is my Home Of Record...Something you have when you are in the Military (Marine Corps) and you are not home. I was born and raised in Florida and my belongings have been at my Grandparents house in Alabama since I have been in Okinawa for four years. Thank you, and have a great day.

Calm down, fellas. If this goes any further, I'm going to post the the Hunks of Explorer Forum Calendar proof shots. Kris, your esteemed moderator, got cozy in a thong with a JVC headunit. :)

LOL yeah keep it down guyythhsss..

Pioneer avic z1...Love it.

What install kit did you use on the HU? And did you use a plug and play harness or tap everything yourself?

I picked up a Crutchfield harness that supposedly allows me to keep the door speakers and sub. In addition, I have a Scosche kit for the HU. But, I've heard mixed reviews on the Scosche. So, I am open to anything.

And, lastly, do you have any more shots of the install close up? Since my dash essentially is the same as yours, I've very interested in the fit, trim, etc.

Thanks. :salute:

If anyone has any tips on the best way to get the head unit surround plastic trim thing to fit nicely, I would be very interested. Ours clicks in, and then falls out a day later - very annoying, and it looks ugly seeing the metal frame/holder. I thought of superglue or the like, but if I ever need to remove it, it would be hard to get off.

I used the Scosche one. I also got it off of Crutchfield. I used a wiring harness from there also.

I thought the kit was awesome. It fit snug in the dash and the only thing you have to do is a little trimming with a metal file or dremel to get the kit and the head unit to fit nicely together. Not even noticable.

I am currently traveling and won't be home until around Wed. or Thurs. afternoon. So when I get home, I will be more than happy to show you the head unit with more pictures.

On another note. JCUZ- I completely stopped arguing with you. I am done. So when someone says cut it out or stop...That doesn't mean bombard their inbox with PM's...Got me?

I'm glad to hear about the kit. I purchased one and knocked out the middle bar of the filler plate and painted it silver to match the bezel (and the DDX), but I am not happy with the job I did on the filler. The edges where I took it off are not perfectly flush with the remaining plate. So, I ordered two more tonight to try to get it perfect (I'm a nut for details).

And, I'm glad to hear the harnesses work well. That's a huge plus.

I'll look forward to the photos. I hope to have this finished by Thanksgiving.
